Gridiron Glory

Week 16 of the NFL season and I still can’t get enough. (Just ask my poor, frustrated wife/football widow). Here are some great photos from today’s New York Times, accompanied by my “humble opinion” comments from 50-some odd years of viewing games, highlights, and documentaries. Happy NFL Sunday … and Merry Christmas!

In the “your guess is as good as mine” category: Jerry Kramer, Green Bay Packers.

Ray Nitschke, middle linebacker of the Green Bay Packers. Second only to Jack Lambert of the Pittsburgh Steelers, imho.

Jim Brown – Cleveland Browns. Still oft-referred to as “the greatest NFL running back ever.” While I didn’t witness him playing “live,” I’ve yet to see that moniker proven wrong, judging from highlight reels.

The play that cemented my long-time fandom of the Pittsburgh Steelers in my youth. Go ahead, call me a bandwagon jumper!

Ah. those ’70s Miami Dolphins. 40 years later and still kings of the streak … till they get knocked off.

From the tearjerker “Brian’s Song” to the bad-a** Nick Nolte in “North Dallas Forty” to Al Pacino in “Any Given Sunday,” pretty damn good cinema!

For my money, still the most knowledgable and entertaining crew to occupy the booth on Monday night.
